Trauma-sensitive yoga for soldiers in combat and combat support roles living with PTSD
Soldiers living with PTSD need more than a retreat. They need someone who stays with them the day after.
At Heart2Heart Israel, that support lasts 18 months or more, with weekly trauma-sensitive yoga therapy sessions at the heart of the program.
Now, as we expand from two groups a year to four, and applications far outnumber available spots, we are raising funds to sustain this essential support.
For many people living with service-related PTSD, the end of a retreat brings a familiar challenge: going home.
There were hugs, tears, and promises to stay in touch. Then the door closes, and everything comes back: the reluctance to leave the house, the sleepless nights, the irritability that takes a toll on the family, the body on high alert even when there is no danger.
And you’re facing it alone.
Heart2Heart Israel was founded to make the day after possible. We offer 18 months or more of ongoing support for soldiers in combat and combat support roles diagnosed with service-related PTSD, with support for their families as well. Free of charge, without unnecessary bureaucracy.
A weekly anchor for body and mind: trauma-sensitive yoga therapy.
When your body is constantly on high alert, connecting with others, meeting with a mentor, or returning to work can feel overwhelming.
In weekly sessions, participants practice tools that help them feel calmer and more grounded, sometimes for the first time in years. Many describe these sessions as a lifeline.
In the middle of a panic attack, when an inner voice says, “You’re going to die,” they begin to hear another: “Breathe. You’re here. You’re okay.”
Breath by breath, they learn to breathe anew, so they can live anew.
These tools don’t cure PTSD. They help make living with it possible.
Every donation to this campaign directly funds these sessions, which Heart2Heart Israel runs with its own team.
It helps participants engage with the rest of the program, and it is one of three pillars of support:
Our commitment doesn’t end when a group completes the program. In eight years, no participant has been left alone in a hard moment: not at two in the morning, not on Shabbat, not years after their group ended.
Trauma-sensitive yoga is woven throughout our work: at 27 locations across Israel, during our retreats, and in our joint program with Hadassah Mount Scopus.
Now, we are expanding from two groups a year to four.
Yet demand continues to exceed our capacity. For each group, we receive more than 200 applications and can accept only 17 participants. Behind every application we cannot accept is a real person still struggling alone.
Many participants who came to us during some of the hardest periods of their lives now describe trauma-sensitive yoga as something that helps them get through each day.
When asked why they want to give back, so many offer the same answer: “It saved me. I want to save others.”
They went into battle so that we could breathe. Now it’s our turn to stand by them.
