The STET Project is an initiative focused on the W1282X nonsense mutation in the CFTR gene. W1282X is a global CFTR mutation. It is especially enriched in the Ashkenazi Jewish population, where it is the most common CF-causing mutation among Ashkenazi Jewish individuals with CF in Israel.
The STET Project was founded to map a practical path forward by uniting patient-centered biology, cutting-edge therapies, and rigorous testing to restore true CFTR function and alleviate the CF symptom burden.
Test different scientific strategies using cells grown from CF patients carrying the W1282X mutation to see which ones can successfully fix or restore CFTR protein function.
Research focus: Looking at various genetic and biological techniques.
Work closely with doctors to find both traditional and cutting-edge treatments to manage chronic lung infections, airway inflammation, and other breathing symptoms.
Options: Advanced antibiotics, virus-based treatments (phages), anti-biofilm treatments, non-antibiotic options.
